How can we help?

Find the answers to your questions about the Reliable Professional Steam Boilers

5100BU, 5100CD, 5100CJ

This 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ is advertised to allow continuous steam for up to 4 hours, but I am getting less than this. How can I get up to 4 hours of continuous steam?

It is likely that your steam valve is fully open, which means your steam output is much higher than it needs to be. Locate the black knob on your solenoid and close it off completely. Then, open it a maximum of 2 turns and you will notice your steam will last longer and the pressurized steam output will remain more than sufficient.

How do I empty the water out of the 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ?

Turn the boiler off and unplug it. Wait for it to cool sufficiently, then remove the pressure safety cap and tip the unit upside down to drain it.

What is Eco-Mode?

Eco-Mode is an energy-saving mode which keeps your boiler at a “ready state” of 2 bars (29 psi) of pressure which uses much less electricity than holding at the max. When you are ready to use steam, flick the switch to the “ON” position and it will build up to full pressure in 1-2 minutes.

IMPORTANT: NO STEAM in ECO Mode.  This is a ready state and will not produce dry steam.

How large is the 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ?

The dimensions of the 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ are 8” x 12.25” x 10”, or 20.3 x 31.1 x 25.4 cm.

What is the maximum steam pressure of the 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ?

50 PSI, or 3.5 Bar.

How heavy is the 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ?

10.8 lbs, or 4.9 kg before any water is added.

How long does the 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ take to heat up?

Depending on the water in your boiler, a full boiler with 1.9 L of water will heat up in 15-20 minutes.

What sort of power does my 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ draw?
  • The 5100BU/4100IR is a combination of a 1000W boiler and 800W iron, for a total of 1800W
  • The 5100CD and 5100CJ draws a total of 1000W.
What sort of water should I use in my 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ?

While any water can be used, using cleaner water will extend the lifetime of your boiler. For this reason, we recommend using distilled water. If hard water must be used, ensure you are following the care and maintenance instructions found in your user manual by draining your boiler out regularly and avoid allowing water to sit and settle for long periods of time inside.

How do I use the water measuring tube?

To check the level of water in the boiler, remove the pressure safety cap and insert the water measuring tube until it touches the very bottom of the tank. Then, cover the opening at the top with your thumb and lift the tube out of the water to see how full it is relative to the maximum capacity of your unit. Please note that the maximum indicated on the water measuring tube will be lower than the amount of water that can physically fit in your tank.

This is because you need to leave some room for steam!

If I let my 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ run dry, will it burn out the element?

We strongly recommend not allowing your boiler to run dry, as doing so will increase wear and tear on your boiler and possibly void your warranty. Your 5100BU boiler is equipped with an overheating protection thermostat that shuts off the tank element when the tank is empty.Once the unit cools,
the element will start to heat again. This cycle will continue until you add water to the tank or shut off the unit.

My 5100BU/5100CD/5100CJ was working but now it won’t turn on, or it will turn on but won’t heat.  How do I get it working again?

Check that the unit is properly plugged in and you did not blow a breaker. If the issue persists, please contact our Support Team at support@reliablecorporation.com or call us at 1-800-268-1649.

Can I use an extension cord?

It is not recommended to use an extension cord or power bar/surge protector. If an extension cord/surge protector is absolutely necessary, a cord with an ampere rating equal to or greater than the maximum rating of the iron must be used. A cord rated for less amperage can result in a risk of fire or electric shock due to overheating and will void your warranty. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or tripped over.

How long does the boiler take to heat up?

20 - 30 minutes

Why does the plug on the 8000BU/8000CD/8000CJ look different than a standard North American plug?

The 8000BU requires 20-amp service, which is indicated by one of the upper prongs being sideways. If you do not already have 20-amp service, you will need to have an electrician make the conversion for you on an existing outlet. Luckily, it is a very fast and inexpensive procedure that an electrician can perform easily.

What is the difference between the 8000BUand 9000BU?

While both of these systems offer an uninterrupted steam supply through hooking up a direct water feed, the 9000BU offers additional flexibility. Not only is it on wheels so it can be easily moved around, but it contains a cabinet below the boiler where you can keep a bucket filled with water that the 9000BU can draw from instead of through a direct feed line.  For this reason, the 9000BU is also about twice as tall as the 8000BU.

What sort of water should I use in my 8000BU/8000CD/8000CJ?

While any water can be used, using cleaner water will extend the lifetime of your boiler. That being said, DO NOT use distilled water in this particular boiler. It will prevent the sensor from being able to read the water level and prevent it from automatically filling properly.

If hard water must be used, ensure you are following the care and maintenance instructions found in your user manual by draining your boiler out regularly and avoid allowing water to sit and settle for long periods of time inside.  We recommend draining your boiler at least once a week to prevent scale buildup.

Why does my 8000BU/8000CD/8000CJ switch keep going on and off?
